Addressing the Costs and Quality of Prescription Drug Coverage of Medicare Beneficiaries

University of Maryland / Commonwealth Fund
12/01/01 - 06/30/05

Dennis Shea, Department of Health Policy and Administration

This project incorporated three interrelated study tasks focused on the cost and quality of drug coverage for Medicare beneficiaries: (1) estimating the cost of a Medicare drug benefit, (2) tracking prescription coverage of Medicare beneficiaries, and (3) developing quality indicators for prescription coverage of program beneficiaries. All three built upon previous Commonwealth Fund grants to the Peter Lamy Center at the University of Maryland Baltimore. The findings from these studies provide important new perspectives on the debate over a Medicare drug benefit.
