Benchmarking the Quality of Medication Use by Medicare Beneficiaries

The primary purpose of this subcontract task will be to assist in the analysis, writing, and presentation of papers to be delivered under the project entitled Benchmarking the Quality of Medication Use by Medicare Beneficiaries supported by the Commonwealth Fund for work provided by The University of Maryland at Baltimore. The main project has three primary objectives. The first objective is to describe the pharmacotherapeutic profiles of a nationally representative sample of Medicare beneficiaries classified by disease state. The second objective is to compare the observed patterns against a selected set of markers for quality of medication use that distinguishes appropriate drug indications from potential underuse or problematic use. The third objective of the project is to analyze specific factors associated with areas of concern.
