Larry D. Gamm, Associate Professor of Health Policy and Administration

The Edwin L. Crosby Memorial Fellowship is awarded to a health care researcher, administrator, or policy analyst for significant contributions to knowledge in the field of health care, especially in the area of care for the community. Dr. Gamm worked with the Hospital Research and Educational Trust and American Hospital Association (AHA) staff in research activities focused on identifying, understanding, evaluating, and promoting cooperative, community-oriented behavior to improve health care. His AHA-funded pilot project focused on collaboration among hospitals and other organizations to imporve the health status of populations in three areas of the nation: Greater Des Moines, Iowa; Lehigh Valley, Pennsylvania; and another area to be selected. The fellowship study provided initial information on contributing factors and barriers to community-focused collaborative efforts, steps in the development of such efforts, and the potential role of community-focused collaboration in national health care reform.
