Program Co-Directors
Steve Austad, Ph.D.
Steven N. Austad, Ph.D., is Professor of Cellular and Structural Biology at the University of Texas Health Science Center, San Antonio, Texas, and he has been a fellow of the Gerontological Society of America since 1993. His research has focused on identifying the underlying mechanisms of various types of physical decay, and studying how that decay impacts a species’ life expectancy.
Roger McCarter, Ph.D.
Roger McCarter, Ph.D., is Professor of Biobehavioral Health and a faculty member of the Center for Developmental and Health Genetics at The Pennsylvania State University. He is Past President of the International Biogerontology Resources Institute and of the Gerontological Society of America. Dr. McCarter’s research over many years has dealt with mechanisms of caloric restriction in aging and in particular the involvement of energy metabolism in aging processes. His current focus is on the interaction of genes and environment on aging processes.
Gerald McClearn, Ph.D.
Gerald McClearn, Ph.D., is Evan Pugh Professor of Health and Human Development in the Department of Biobehavioral Health and the Center for Developmental and Health Genetics of The Pennsylvania State University, University Park. His primary research interest is in the interaction of genetic and environmental influences on aging processes. His research has involved participation in several Swedish Twin Studies and in the use of inbred and heterogeneous stocks of mice.
