Areas:  Socio-emotional development in infants, toddlers, and preschool children, specifically focused on emotion regulation and the emergence of behavior problems. Other research areas: developmental psychophysiology, infant crying and colic, parental regulation strategies.

Clancy Blair, Ph.D. (Developmental Psychology), 1996, University of Alabama at Birmingham, Associate Professor. Areas: Child Development Centers/Labs: Prevention Research Center Interests: Design and evaluation of preventive interventions; developmental relation between emotion and cognition in early childhood; application of epidemiological methods to the study of child development.

Graduate Students


 

Rachael Kelleher is a doctoral candidate in HDFS. Rachael's primary research interests center around the concepts of how emotion regulation, temperament, and physiological processes underlie early childhood development. In particular, she is interested in how such influences serve as pathway promoters of stress and adaptability in child functioning. In addition she is also interested in how successive cognitive development plays an increasingly greater role in guiding emotion regulation and adjustment to normative transitions across the life span. Rachael received her B.A. in English Literature and a Neuroscience concentration from Kenyon College.

Stephanie Saunders is a graduate student in HDFS. Her research interests are in the areas of emotional and cognitive development, regulatory behavior and childhood resiliency. She lives in State College with her beagle, Chama, and her multiple feline friends.

Kristi Voegtline is a first-year graduate student in HDFS. Her research interests are in socio-emotional development in infancy. More specifically, she is interested in infant-parent relationships and various risk processes affecting the infant-parent relationship as well as protective processes that mediate those risks. In addition to this, Kristi is passionate about prevention programming within the early years of life. Her hobbies include any activities where she can be outdoors and spending time with family and friends.

Lucien Whembolua is a doctoral candidate in Biobehavioral Health. His primary research interest is to explore the cellular and biochemical nature of neuromodulatory processes that are behind the behavioral adaptations to drugs of abuse. Ultimately, he would like to help shedding the light on effective prevention of and intervention in human disorders such as drug addiction and alcoholism. A Congolese (DRC) citizen, Lucien received his B.S. in Biology from the Pennsylvania State University.

April Shultz is a senior majoring in Rehabilitation Services. April is originally from Bloomsburg, PA. After graduation in May 2006, April plans on pursuing a Masters in Occupational Therapy and finding a career working with children with disabilities.

Candice Troast is a senior majoring in Advertising. Candice is originally from New Jersey. Upon graduation in May 2006, she plans to obtain a job at an advertising agency and eventually pursue a Masters in Business Administration.

Denisa Pribulova is a junior majoring in Biology with a Vertebrate Physiology Option. She hopes to continue her education in medicine and eventually pursue a career as a pediatric physician. Denisa enjoys being a counselor at Camp Ability for children with various disabilities and diseases and volunteering at Geisinger Medical Center every summer. Her hobbies include skiing and spending time with family and friends.

Upon graduation in August 2006, Karen plans to pursue a job in the field within a community setting. In the future, Karen plans to get her Masters in Social Work.

time, Deidre enjoys dancing, twirling baton, snowboarding and camping. After
