 About the lab

The Infant and Child Temperament Lab was established in 1987 as a center for research and training regarding child development in the first few years of life. It is affiliated with the Department of Human Development and Family Studies, in Penn State's interdisciplinary College of Health and Human Development.

Current and Past Research Projects

We have one research project underway. The Emotional Beginnings Project focuses on the development of emotions and emotion regulation in the first years of life and how it relates to behavior problems in preschoolers. Dr. Stifter is also an investigator with the Family Life Project which examines the development of children living in rural poverty. The Early Infancy Project, which was completed several years ago, focused on infant colic (excessive crying). Check out the College of Health and Human Development's On-Line Magazine.

Learning Opportunities

The Infant and Child Temperament Lab offers many learning opportunities for undergraduate and graduate students interested in infant and child behavior and development and in research methods.
