Cynthia A. Stifter, Ph.D. (Human Development), 1987, University of Maryland, Professor.
Socio-emotional development in infants, toddlers, and preschool children, specifically focused on emotion regulation, temperament, and the emergence of behavior problems. Other research areas: developmental psychophysiology, temperament, infant crying and colic, parental regulation strategies.

Graduate Students


Elizabeth Cipriano, M.S. is a doctoral candidate in HD FS. Liz's primary research interests are in the area of emotion regulation and socio-emotional development in infancy and early childhood. Additionally, she is interested in the interaction between parenting behaviors and temperament which lead to different social and emotional outcomes in childhood. Liz received her B. A. in Psychology from the University of Michigan and her M.S. in HD FS from Penn State..

Jessica Dollar is a doctoral candidate in HD FS. Jessica's primary research interests include various aspects of social and emotional development and emotion reguation in infancy and early childhood. In particular, Jessica is interested in how parents and peers contribute to children's social and emotional competence. Jessica received her B.A. in Psychology from the University of North Carolina at Greensboro.

Undergraduate Students


Peggy Schoening is a junior majoring in Life Science with a minor in Human Development and Family Studies. She is an active member and Co-Residence Halls Coordinator for the Student Red Cross Club. She is originally from Sea Girt, New Jersey. While at home she enjoys lifeguarding, teaching swimming lessons, and going to the beach. Among her hobbies she loves to travel and is going to europe this summer to study spanish. After college Peggy is planning to attend medical school.

Katie Freet is a junior majoring in psychology from Harrisburg, PA. Katie plans on attending graduate school for either developmental or school psychology.

Elizabeth Miller is a junior Human Development and Family Studies major. She is the secretary for the HDFS Undergraduate Student Organization, works at a toy store, and is very active in her church, where she teaches Sunday School for four-year-olds. She loves working with children and hopes to continue to do so in the future. After graduating, Elizabeth plans to attend graduate school to study human development, most likely with an emphasis on infant and child development or child psychology. In her spare time, Elizabeth likes to experiment with cooking and read about attachment theory.

Becky Lantz is a sophomore majoring Biology with a minor in History. Becky is actively involved in the Association of Residence Halls Students and South Halls Residence Association. After graduation, Becky plans on attending medical school and eventually specializing in hematology/oncology or pediatrics. She is from Levittown, PA and some of her favorite things include tie-dye and turtles.

Stephanie Sullivan is senior majoring in Life Science with a minor in Health Policy Administration. Stephanie is a member of the PSU Women's Gymnastics team. She is also a member of the Alpha Epsilon Delta pre-medicine honors society. After graduating, Stephanie plans to pursue a career in medicine. Stephanie is originally from Gaithersburg, MD. She loves working with children and hopes to work with them in the future.
