Colleen Mortimer: Supervising Teacher

Hi! My name is Colleen Mortimer, and I am originally from Butler, PA. That is where I grew up with two wonderful parents and nine crazy siblings! At a young age I learned to appreciate the things that I had and that there was nothing wrong with hand-me-downs! I received my B.S. in Rehabilitation Education from Penn State in 1982, and have just recently, August 2006, achieved my Master of Education in Curriculum and Instruction. After graduating with my B.S., I began working as a preschool teacher at a local child care facility and after two years I w as promoted to the director. During this time, I fell in love with the children and the teaching aspect of early childhood education. Since then, I became employed with the Bennett Family Center, in February 2001, as a Supervising Teacher. I was anxious to continue my education and further my knowledge in the realm of early childhood education and therefore continued my studies. As a result, I am excited to apply my knowledge, and past 20 years of experience, into implementing a program that provides the children with a wonderful, caring learning environment and mentoring students such that they can continue encouraging children to develop to their fullest potential. Along with my desire to educate young children, I also have a very active family life of raising three energetic boys, Derek, Ryan and Adam, along with my husband Tim. We love living in State College and have settled in the Stormstown area where we are able to ride our dirt bikes, catch snakes and enjoy the outdoors!
