Graduate Program: How to Apply

The process of applying for admission to graduate school at Penn State requires the following application materials, some of which are submitted to the Graduate School (Part 1) and others that should be sent directly to this graduate program (Part 2).

Part 1

- Grad School Admissions and Program Information Portal (electronic application)
Part 2
The HDFS Application Packet should include all of the following requested information and be returned in it's entirety (all at once if possible) to the department office (address below).
The HDFS Department requests the following information in addition to the Graduate School Application:
- Three Letters of Recommendation (unless they are included in the Graduate School Application) Letter of Recommendation form
- Professional and Career Plans (unless included in the Graduate School Application)
- Sample of Scientific Writing (unless included in the Graduate School Application)
- Two Official Transcripts (two from all institutions of higher education attended, both undergraduate and graduate) Transcript request form
International Students only
- Application for U.S. Visa Document
- Official or Attested University Records (with certified translations if the records are not in English-- notorized copies are not accepted)
