Research/Academic Interests

I am focused on the operations side of health care. Quality, strategic planning, and an understanding of the physical plant are major points of focus in my academic career. With a growing number of governmental regulations, these points of interest evolve into more significant players in a health care organization. My goal is to understand these factors and know how to adjust my decision-making accordingly when I enter the work force.

Prior Education

I graduated in 2011 from the University of Alabama at Birmingham with a Bachelor of Science in Health Care Management and a minor in Medical Sociology. My Health Care Management courses provided me with a background in the business of healthcare, while my Medical Sociology classes provided me with the often unforeseen concerns that many uninsured and underserved populations perceive. I believe that having knowledge of both parts of healthcare give me the insight needed to be a successful part of the Penn State MHA program.

Employment History

As a student, both in high school and college, I worked summer jobs at Flowers Hospital in Dothan, Alabama. I spent time in plant operations and medical records, and I took the opportunity to shadow many of the physicians in the hospital. As a part of the last semester of my undergraduate degree, I was able to intern in administration at a larger hospital in Birmingham, Alabama. These work experiences gave me an understanding of what it takes to run a hospital, from the bottom to the top, and shaped my view that every employee is just as important as the next.
