HPA Co-chairs Recap THON 2006
This year, the HPA Club once again participated in the Penn State Dance Marathon raising over $8600 which significantly surpassed last year’s impressive total of $5800! We raised funds through letter solicitation, pledgebooking, and canning trips to Long Island, Syracuse, Virginia, Altoona, and Pittsburgh. We are grateful for all the donations from faculty, staff, and alumni.
The HPA Club had the privilege of sponsoring four dancers in THON. Based on individual money totals and committee participation, Ashley Kaper, Marissa Marasco, Felecia Williamson, and Rachael Mortensen were chosen to represent the HPA Club in THON 2006. After about a month of training, the girls were as prepared as they could be on February 17 when they embarked on the longest, most tiring 48 hours of their lives. By the end of THON weekend, their bodies ached and they were mentally exhausted yet our dancers were happy to see the joy on the faces of Four Diamonds families and excited to be part the most lucrative THON ever. In total more than $4.2 million was raised to fight childhood cancers — for the kids.
Although unable to make the journey to THON this year, our THON family was enthusiastic about our efforts. Our THON child, Aiyana, was diagnosed with Leukemia two years ago. She is currently in remission and doing well, and we hope the HPA club can maintain its positive relationship Aiyana throughout the upcoming years.
We would just like to say thanks again to everyone who made this the best year yet for the HPA Club’s THON fundraising efforts and to congratulate our dancers. We look forward to the committee growing and surpassing our total next year!
