Student conference to focus on preventing errors in health care
The Penn State College of Medicine is hosting an Institute for Healthcare Improvement (IHI) Open School Interprofessional Conference on Saturday, January 26, 2013 from 9:30 a.m. to 4:00 p.m. at its campus in Hershey, Pa. The conference will focus on preventing errors in health care. Penn State students in medicine, nursing, health policy and administration, industrial engineering and public health are invited to attend.
According to the conference's organizers, the event provides students with a unique setting in which to learn how to recognize, confront and prevent errors in health care. Students will learn about recent developments in the patient safety movement, understand what it means to be a systems thinker, employ systems-thinking-derived strategies in specific contexts to create a safer system and explore the unique relationship between patient safety and quality.
Student attendees will meet faculty leaders in quality improvement and patient safety, interact and collaborate with students involved in current research projects and network with other health professional student and faculty leaders.
