The Pennsylvania State University’s Department of Kinesiology, housed in the College of Health and Human Development, seeks applicants for the position of Instructor of Kinesiology in the Athletic Training Education Program (ATEP). This 36-week full-time benefits eligible position is expected to begin in January 2014.
Primary responsibilities will include teaching an emergency care course and other didactic and clinical athletic training courses at the discretion of the ATEP Director. Instruction in the undergraduate Kinesiology program is also a requirement. To perform this job successfully, an individual must be able to perform each essential duty satisfactorily and meet the technical standards of the ATEP.
Other responsibilities include evaluating the clinical performance of athletic training students through athletic training room observations and clinical proficiency assessments as well as other duties assigned by the ATEP Director and Clinical Education Coordinator (CEC). Assist the ATEP Director and CEC in maintaining and ensuring compliance with the Standards for the Accreditation of Entry-Level Athletic Training Education Programs established by CAATE(Commission on Accreditation of Athletic Training Education). Assist in the review and revision of policies and procedures for the operation of the ATEP. Serve on departmental and university committees, and engage in scholarly activity. Professional affiliation and involvement with national, regional and state professional organizations is encouraged.
Qualified candidates will have earned a Master’s degree (PhD preferred) in athletic training or a related field and hold current board of certification (BOC) status as an ATC (certified athletic trainer) in good standing and be eligible for PA State Licensure. Candidates must display a strong interest in undergraduate clinical education and a commitment to excellence and innovation in teaching. A minimum of three years of university level teaching experience in a CAATE approved ATEP beyond a graduate student assistantship is required. A minimum of three years professional clinical athletic training experience beyond a graduate student assistantship is required. Instructor certification in First Aid and CPR/AED is also required. Active participation in professional organizations and evidence of scholarly activities are strongly recommended. Computer skills, excellent communication/interpersonal skills and the ability to mentor students are a must. Position will report to the Department Head, to the ATEP Director, and to the CEC.
