| The Help Spot: VPN
The following are instructions for downloading, installing and configuring the Cisco
VPN client to connect through the firewall into your LAN.
I. Download and Installation
A. Download the client.
1. Windows version is here.
2. MacOS X version is here.
3. Linux version is here. |
*In order to download the client, you must log in with your HHD computer account userid and password. |
** The remaining instructions apply to the Windows version
of the client **
B. Unzip files to a temporary location (that you can
find later).
C. Run setup.exe.
1. Click Next, Click Yes,
Click Next, Click Next.
2. If prompted with a
"hardware installation" message, click "continue anyway." *you may be
prompted several times*
3. Click Finish to
restart your computer.
II. Configuration
A. Go to Start -> Programs -> Cisco Systems VPN
Client -> VPN Client. *you may get a message about a component not
being available. It is probably still loading.
1. Click the "new" button.
a. In the "connection entry" field enter anything, for example:
Henderson South VPN.
b. In the "host" field, enter the host IP address provided by
ISS.
c. Under Group Authentication, enter the name and password provided by
ISS.
d. Click Save.
e. Now you can select your connection entry and click the "connect" button.
f. Enter your HHD computer account userid and password. *this is normally
the account you log onto your office computer with.
Enter your userid in the form: abc123
For Research Office users,
enter your userid in the form: hhddo\abc123
B. You have now connected through the firewall to your
LAN. Your connection will timeout if left idle. You can quit
manually by disconnecting the VPN client. |
