JumpStart Program Details
JumpStart emphasizes the team-building and goal-setting skills necessary to successfully navigate student life at Penn State—skills that will be further refined through your participation in the first-year seminar linked to JumpStart.
Health and Human Development faculty actively participate in the JumpStart retreat and then teach the first-year seminars to build upon retreat experiences that develop time-management, goal-setting, and motivation skills. You will explore Penn State’s learning environment and resources and discover the wide array of career options available to Health and Human Development graduates.

Your participation in the August retreat will allow you to move into your residence hall before the rush!
Credits
By participating in the retreat and completing the seven-week first-year seminar, you will earn 2 credits and fulfill your first-year seminar requirement.
Fee
$75 includes early move in, meals, lodging, and transportation. All you need to bring is bedding (pillow, sheets, blanket, or sleeping bag), clothes, flashlight, and personal items in a daypack. A full list will be provided upon confirmation of your registration.
Registration
JumpStart registration will take place during your First-Year Testing, Consulting, and Advising Program (FTCAP) visit which will be scheduled some time between May 18 and July 18, 2009.
To register for JumpStart you will:
- meet with your adviser, select and schedule your JumpStart retreat session and first-year seminar section
- complete the JumpStart registration form provided to you at FTCAP. If you are unable to attend FTCAP please contact us for registration information.
- attach a check for $75 made payable to The Pennsylvania State University
- submit your form and attached check to the Student Services Center staff during FTCAP
