Giampietro "John" Vairo, Ph.D. candidate in Kinesiology, Athletic Training is the receipient of a 2008 National Athletic Trainers' Association Research and Education Foundation Doctoral Scholarship.
Michelle LaBoda , senior kinesiology major, has been selected for the 2008 Ralph Dorn Hetzel Memorial Award. This University wide award recognizes achievement and potential of outstanding students who have demostrated the qualities of leadership. The awards ceremony was held April 5, 2008.
Lori Gravish, instructor in the Department of Kinesiology and Wellness Coordinator for the Village at Penn State has been selected for the 2008 Penn State Excellence in Adavising Award. The award, established by the Undergraduate Student Government's Academic Assembly and sponsored by each college, annually honors faculty and advisers.
August 2007
John H. Challis, Ph.D. has been selected as the CHHD 2007 "HHD Alumni Society Excellence in Teaching Award". This award was established in honor of "truly memorable educators whose inspiration is never forgotten" and recognizes excellence in teaching and contributions to the art of teaching.
Robert Eckhardt, Ph.D. has been selected to receive the 2007 Evan G. and Helen G. Pattishall Outstanding Research Achievement Award from the College of Health and Human Development. This award was established to affirm the important role that research plays in the success and vitality of our College and honors a faculty member who has advanced the frontiers of knowledge in their field.
Lauren Kramer, Ph.D. has been awarded the 2007 Evelyn R. Saubel Faculty Award in the College of Health and Human Development. This award is given to a faculty member committed to human service, who is an accessible advisor in both academics and career decisions, and who demonstrates a caring, professional style that symbolizes College values.

Kelly Dougherty, Ph.D. candidate in Kinesiology received the Carl V. Gisolfi Memorial Research Fund Grant from the American College of Sports Medicine Foundation. Carl V. Gisolfi, Ph.D., FACSM, was one of the most influential leaders of ACSM and with Gatorade, ACSM created the Gisolfi Memorial Fund to honor his many contributions to ACSM and the exercise science field. This research grant is designated to encourage research in thermoregulation, exercise, and hydration. Kelly's grant will fund her dissertation work, titled “SAFE KIDS: Safe Ambient conditions For Exercising KIDS”. Kelly is mentored by Professor W. Larry Kenney.
Yatin Kirane, Ph.D. candidate in Kinesiology has received the J. Leonard Goldner award for outstanding basic-science paper at the American Orthopedic Foot and Ankle Society's annual summer meeting in Toronto, July 12 - 15th. His paper was titled "The Contribution of the Flexor Hallucis Longus to Loading of the First Metatarsal and First Metataso-phalangeal Joint". Yatin also has the distinction of being awarded the Department of Kinesiology Graduate Student Research Award for 2007. Yatin's advisor is Dr. Neil Sharkey.

Neil Sharkey, professor of kinesiology, orthopaedics and rehabilitation, has been appointed associate dean for research and graduate education in the Penn State College of Health and Human Development, effective August 1.
Rashem Patel, senior kinesiology major in the athletic training option, has been selected for the 2007 Ralph Dorn Hetzel Memorial Award. This University wide award recognizes achievement and potential of outstanding students who have demostrated the qualities of leadership. The awards ceremony will be held April 14, 2007.
