Greetings from the Recreation, Park and Tourism Management (RPTM) Affiliate Program Group. The APG is a great way to reconnect with the Department, its students, alumni, and faculty. Our members take great pride in uniting alumni within the major through mentoring students, recognizing alumni and students with awards, communicating news and events, and hosting social and professional events.

You are already a member of the APG if you are an alumnus or alumna of the RPTM program.  No dues, no fees, no catch! The Board works hard to provide information and programming to alumni in coordination with the “MACS” framework: Mentoring, Awards, Communications and Social/Professional events.

The RPTM APG proudly participates in the College’s Mentoring Program each year. In the past, we have provided ten alumni mentors in the recreation, park and tourism field who are paired with current RPTM students. On March 31, the RPTM APG hosted a Mentoring Brunch and an Alumni Speed Networking event as part of the RPTM Weekend.

Our awards chairperson, Dianne DeFusco ’88, is hard at work with nominations for our newly-created award, the RPTM APG Outstanding Alumni Award. Recipients must have received an undergraduate degree from the program, must work in the field, and must promote, foster, and demonstrate a commitment to the profession. This annual award was presented for the first time at the RPTM Recognition Banquet on March 31 to Robert Griffith ’72, ’82g, executive director of the Pennsylvania Recreation and Park Society.

We hope that you enjoyed the Department’s newsletter; if you did not receive a copy in the mail, please contact the HHD Office of Alumni Relations at 814-865-3831 to update your information. Please contact me with any questions or to discuss ways to get involved in the RPTM APG!
