McGonigle inducted as Fellow of American Academy of Nursing

UNIVERSITY PARK, Pa. – Dr. Dee McGonigle, associate professor of nursing and information sciences and technology at Penn State, was inducted into the American Academy of Nursing on November 11, 2006. She was nominated by two current Academy Fellows and was selected by the Academy’s fifteen-member Fellow Selection Committee for her outstanding achievements in the nursing profession. Dr. McGonigle was formally inducted as a Fellow with fifty-four other nurse leaders during the Academy’s Annual Awards Ceremony and Induction Banquet in Miami, Florida.
The Academy is constituted to anticipate national and international trends in health care and to address resulting issues of health care knowledge and policy. Not only is the invitation to Fellowship recognition of outstanding accomplishments within the nursing profession, but also it affords Fellows an opportunity to work with other health care leaders in addressing current issues. The Academy’s mission is to serve the public and nursing profession by advancing health policy and practice through the generation, synthesis, and dissemination of nursing knowledge.
Dr. McGonigle’s research interests are in the ethical implementation of the care management process and health care informatics and the effect of the human-technology interface on job performance and information management. She is currently researching knowledge structuring, or how people relate to others what they know, to examine the similarities and gaps between clinicians and researchers in order to promote evidence-based practice in health care settings. She has published extensively and has given presentations internationally and nationally. She is a member of the Expert Panel on Nursing Informatics for the American Academy of Nursing.
Dr. McGonigle, who is located at Penn State New Kensington, is editor-in-chief of the Online Journal of Nursing Informatics (OJNI). She received her baccalaureate degree in nursing from Penn State, a master's degree in nursing from Indiana University of Pennsylvania, and her doctorate in Foundations of Education from the University of Pittsburgh.
