Health and Human Development Events to Benefit Centre County United Way

Several upcoming fundraising events hosted by the College of Health and Human Development will benefit Penn State’s Centre County United Way campaign. The College of Health and Human Development has been a dedicated supporter of Centre County United Way and its partner agencies for more than fourteen years. Events in 2009 include:

Sports Items and Memorabilia Call-In Auction

Between October 28 and 30 the college will be auctioning off a number of Penn State sports items and memorabilia, including an “Honorary Coach for a Match” with the Men’s Volleyball team, and autographed items from the 2009 men’s basketball NIT champions, the back-to-back Women’s Volleyball NCAA champions, members of the Penn State Football team, and many more items. To participate, you must preregister for the auction. Send the registration form to Elana Pyle (pvq@psu.edu or 814-865-1717) before you place any bids. If you are a winning bidder, complete your payment using the payment form.

“Donate What You Wish” at the BBH Coffee Shoppe

November 2 from 8:00 to 11:00 a.m., the Department of Biobehavioral Health (BBH) will be setting up the BBH Coffee Shoppe in the hallway outside of 301 Health and Human Development East Building. Visitors will be able to make donations for coffee, juice, other beverages, and baked goods. For more information, view the Coffee Shoppe’s menu.

Silent Auction

On November 2, the School of Hospitality Management (SHM) will be sponsoring a silent auction held in Café Laura in Mateer Building. The auction will offer a number of different hotel and restaurant packages. Another part of SHM’s fundraising efforts has already been successful—the annual “United Way Dinner at Café Laura,” on November 2 is sold out.

The Centre County United Way provides services throughout Centre County that impact one in three people in the county. Areas of provided services include family support; services for children and youth; food, shelter, and crisis services; health-related services; care for people with disabilities; care for the elderly; legal/mediation services; adult education and literacy; general community support.
