Davis Reappointed Member of Pennsylvania Commission for Women

April 21, 2009

Lisa Davis, director of the Pennsylvania Office of Rural Health (PORH), has been reappointed a member of the Pennsylvania Commission for Women by Governor Edward G. Rendell.

“I am honored to continue to have the opportunity to serve on the Commission for Women,” says Davis. “The commission is comprised of talented women who are dedicated to advancing the diverse needs of women in the Commonwealth, and it has been a strong advocate for women’s issues.”

The Pennsylvania Commission for Women aims to “ensure that women have full and equal opportunity to serve in every capacity as citizens of the Commonwealth.” The commission collects and disseminates information, raises awareness for issues that affect women, and provides job training, leadership conferences, and other services that increase opportunities for women. Davis, who was first appointed to the commission in 2007, represents the rural community.

As director of PORH, Davis is responsible for developing and sustaining linkages with state and national partners and seeking ways to enhance the health status of rural Pennsylvanians through education, outreach, advocacy, and applied research. Her special interests focus on rural and public health policy, women’s health, special populations, and the uninsured and underinsured.

Davis is the co-chair of the Policy Committee of the National Organization of State Offices of Rural Health, as well as other advisory committees with projects that address rural health care issues. She has been appointed by Governor Ed Rendell to serve on the Governor’s Council on Rural Affairs, is a member of the Board of Directors and treasurer of Pennsylvania Rural Partners, and serves on a number of other boards and advisory councils.

Davis holds a bachelor’s degree in sociology/psychology from Clarion University of Pennsylvania and a Master of Health Administration degree from Penn State.

The Pennsylvania Office of Rural Health is within the Department of Health Policy and Administration in the College of Health and Human Development and is affiliated with Penn State Outreach and Penn State Cooperative Extension.
