May 11, 2006
(University Park, Pa) — MAJ Bradley M. Beauvais has been selected as a Juran Fellow for 2006 by the Joseph M. Juran Center for Leadership in Quality at the University of Minnesota.
Beauvais, a doctoral student in the Penn State Department of Health Policy and Administration, is conducting research for his dissertation, entitled, “Does Money Really Matter? The Effects of Health Organization Finances on Quality of Care.”
Beauvais is one of five students nationwide who were selected for the prestigious fellowships, which recognize third- or fourth-year doctoral candidates “whose research shows the most promise in broadening and fueling thinking and practices in the area of quality in their chosen fields.” Beauvais has eleven years of active commissioned service in the U.S. Army Medical Service Corps. Prior to beginning his doctoral studies, he served as Chief Financial Officer for Keller Army Community Hospital at the United States Military Academy at West Point.
According to Beauvais, the fellowship will have a tremendous impact on him both personally and professionally. “It’s an incredible honor to be associated with one of the foremost thinkers in the quality field,” he says. Also, “the fellowship embeds you in a network of individuals with a similar interest in quality matters and facilitates the exchange of ideas. It provides the means and the impetus to move forward on quality-related research.” Beauvais holds a bachelor’s degree in agricultural business and an M.B.A. from Colorado State University and a master’s degree in economics from the University of Oklahoma.
The Joseph M. Juran Center for Leadership in Quality was founded in 1993 at the University of Minnesota’s Carlson School of Management to advance research in the field of quality management. In 1997, Dr. Joseph Juran — the world’s preeminent living Quality expert — gave his foundation and name to the center. With greater resources and name recognition, the Juran Center broadened its mission to help fulfill Dr. Juran’s vision of the 21st Century as the “Century of Quality.”
