Congratulations Alumni
Derek Dureka (’05) derekdureka@yahoo.com is a recreation program coordinator with Upper Dublin Township’s Parks & Recreation Department located in Fort Washington, PA.
Kristen Fedesco (’00) kfedesco@hotmail.com was honored by the College of Health and Human Development (HHD) Alumni Society on September 23 at an awards reception at the Nittany Lion Inn. She received the HHD Emerging Professional Undergraduate Degree Award.
Matt Hurley (‘90) mhurley@troongolf.com is the area managing director for Troon Golf and general manager of Legacy Golf Club in Bradenton, FL. He was on campus September 30 to interview students for positions at Troon.
John Ferrara (’89) baldeaglesp@state.pa.us is the manager of Bald Eagle State Park in Centre County, which has the Foster Joseph Sayers Reservoir located within its 5,900 acres.

Congratulations Faculty
Linda Caldwell was selected as a fellow of the American Academy for Park and Recreation Administration. She will be inducted on October 20th at the Academy General Membership Meeting at the 2005 National Park and Recreation Association convention to be held in San Antonio, Texas.
Frank Guadagnolo retired from the department on August 31. The “Guady Gala” Retirement Celebration was held on August 27 to honor his 30 years of service to the department. There was a golf tournament at the Penn State Golf Courses followed by dinner at the Ramada Inn and Conference Center. Over 100 alumni, faculty, staff, family and friends gathered to wish him well.
Mark Ivy traveled to Baltimore on August 22nd to meet with Teresa Moore, Nutrition and Physical Activity Program Coordinator and Mary Concannon, Physical Fitness Council Coordinator who work at the Center for Preventative Health Services for the Maryland Department of Health and Mental Hygiene. Mark initiated the meeting to learn the status of Active Living research in Maryland and to explore potential funding opportunities.

Jim Rose and Matt Mileski, PGM students, were pictured in an article about the new custom-made golf cart, The Lion Limo. The article, titled “Free ride in ‘limo’ carting golfers,” appeared in The Daily Collegian on September 9th. Joe Hughes (‘99), head PGA Professional at PSU Golf Courses, said “Students, faculty and staff on campus who want to golf or use the driving range can call the Walker Clubhouse and get a free ride from the Lion Limo.” Sean Pender, Michael Pius and Mark Chianese were also quoted in the article.
