Congratulations Alums

Travis Parker ’06 (tjp200_psu@yahoo.com) is living in Zwolle, Netherlands and playing professional basketball with the Landstede Stitching. 

Matt Grobe ’05 (matt.grobe@nwlr.com) accepted a position as Adventure Center Supervisor at Nemacolin Woodlands Resort and Spa in Farmington, PA.

Kyleigh DeMicco ’04 (kyleigh@steamboatchambers.com) accepted a position with Steamboat Springs Chamber Resort Association in Steamboat Springs, CO.

Jon Boland ’99 (jjaboland@aol.com) was guest speaker in RPTM 360 during a recent visit to campus on October 18, 2006.

Congratulations Students

Ten graduate students Brigitta Baker, Elizabeth Covelli, Sarah Gleeson, Hui (Jimmy) Xie, Huan Li, Toni Liechty, Nick Palso, Andrew Purrington, Yasong (Alex) Wang and Ijnanyah (EJ) Wingate and eight undergraduates Katie Clifford, Courtney Fox, Pat Gould, Lindsay Johnson, Joy Kenawell, Maggie Neil, Ann Marie Prudente and Whitney Renfrew attended the NRPA Conference in Seattle, WA October 10 –14, 2006.

The following students contributed to a presentation at the NRPA Conference (some in collaboration with faculty): Huan Li and Linda Caldwell, “A Cross National Comparison of Leisure Motivation among Adolescents,” Hui (Jimmy) Xie, Deb Kerstetter, and Duarte Morais “Understanding Customer Loyalty Development from a Cross Cultural Perspective,” Toni Liechty, Nuno Ribeiro, and Careen Yarnal “Cruising, Fun, and Positive Emotion in Older Women’s Lives,” Yasong (Alex) Wang “Social Exchange Theory:  An Examination of Personal Benefits and Resident Attitudes Towards Tourism,” Birgitta Baker “Family Cohesion,” and Ijnanyah (EJ) Wingate “Children without Disabilities’ Attitudes toward and Involvement in Recreation of their Siblings with Disabilities.”

Congratulations Faculty

Seven faculty attended the NRPA Conference: Christine Buzinde, John Dattilo, Geoffrey Godbey, Alan Graefe, Mark Ivy, Patty Kleban and Andrew Mowen.  Al Graefe presented “Outdoor Recreation” and Mark Ivy presented “Recreation, Transportation & Public Health:  Encouraging or Discouraging Physical Activity” and “Money Ethic and Occupational Commitment among Park and Recreation Professionals.”

Patty Kleban was selected as a member of the first Penn State Homecoming Faculty Court and was honored at the Homecoming Parade as well as during the homecoming festivities on the field during the football game along with other members of the Homecoming court.
