Graduate Degrees in Hotel, Restaurant, and Institutional Management (HRIM)
Penn State's HRIM graduate program is widely considered to be one of the top hospitality graduate programs in the country. Founded in 1937, the HRIM program was one of America's first. The MS degree prepares students for beginning academic and research positions in 2 year colleges and in some industry settings. The School does not usually offer funding at the MS level. The doctoral degree (PhD) prepares students for advanced academic positions at the university level. The School does offer funding at the Ph.D. level for four years, with satisfactory progress.
Graduates of the HRIM program hold important local, national and international positions in hospitality academia. Graduates leave the program with the skills to achieve research and teaching success at colleges, universities, and other academic institutions. Graduates in 2005-2006 have accepted teaching positions at such institutions as Temple University, the University of South Carolina, the University of Missouri-Columbus, the University of Central Florida and Montclair State University.
