Master of Science Program (MS) in Hotel, Restaurant, and Institutional Management (HRIM)
This 1 1/2-year program is geared toward hospitality professionals who wish to continue their careers in an academic or research setting and is designed to help students develop solid graduate-level research skills within a focused hospitality research area. This MS degree is NOT a professional masters degree. The majority of the student's course work is tailored to the student’s area of hospitality research interest and academic and professional background. Students plan their concentration area courses as well as thesis research with their thesis committee.
Programs Prerequisites:
- Statistics (equivalent to Stat 500), Accounting (3 cr.), Econ (3 cr.), Computer Science (3 cr.)
- 1-2 years of work experience in the hospitality industry
- Undergraduate degree in HRIM or hospitality field or equivalent
Program Requirements(36 credits):
Methods Courses (12 credits):
- HRIM 503 (3 cr)
- Research Methods in HRIM (required)
- Stat 500 (3 cr)
- Applied Statistics (required)
- 6 Credits of Methods Courses
- Stat 501 (3) Regression Methods
- Stat 502 (3) Analysis of Variance & Design of Experiments
HRIM Colloquium:
- HRIM 590 (3 cr)
- Colloquium
Concentration Courses:
15 credits which build a focused hospitality research area (courses are selected at the direction of the student's advisor and thesis committee). MUST include 9 credits of HRIM 597 (Special Topics). No more than 3 credits of independent study should be used to meet concentration requirements (at the discretion of the PIC)
