Curriculum Guidelines and Career Opportunities for Health and Human Development Credit Certificate Programs

The college offers 7 credit certificate programs: Adult Development and Aging Services, Children, Youth, and Family Services, Dietetic Food Service Management, Health Care Management, Health Policy and Administration, Hospitality Management, Nursing Management.

Feeder Function of Certificate and Associate Degree Programs

The college currently offers 3 associate degree programs and 7 credit certificate programs that are responsive to local community needs for the offering campuses.

The philosophy applied in developing both degree and certificate programs is to allow for maximum transferability of credits among certificate, associate, and baccalaureate degree programs. Such credit transfer allows opportunity to advance in one's profession with minimal loss of academic credit.

For example, all credits earned via the Adult Development and Aging and the Children, Youth, and Family Services Certificate Services Programs apply to the associate degree program in Human Development and Family Studies (2 EHFS); all credits from the associate degree program transfer to the HD FS baccalaureate degree.

In addition, licensed registered nurses who are graduates of the Penn State School of Nursing's associate degree in nursing program can apply for admission to the baccalaureate program in nursing. Upon acceptance, all 68 credits earned in the associate degree program can be used to meet baccalaureate nursing degree requirements.

Two programs offered through the School of Hospitality Management also allow for ease in transferring credits. The certificate programs, Dietetic Food Service Management and Hospitality Management have been planned so that credits apply to the associate degree in 2HRIM.

Similarly, all credits earned in the Certificates in Health Care Management and Health Policy and Administration are included in the baccalaureate degree program in Health Policy and Administration
(H P A).
